The Kamloops NorthPaws lost big to the Victoria HarbourCats in the series finale, 18-3, as they lost their fifth straight game. The HarbourCats recorded 19 hits in an impressive night for the offense. The NorthPaws got off to 1-0 and 2-1 leads before the HarbourCats exploded for 14 runs between the third and sixth innings.
“It seemed like everything they put the bat on dropped or was in a good spot or hit hard enough to get it where they want it, just one of those nights,” said First Baseman Jared Hall.
The NorthPaws loaded the bases to begin the ball game and got a run on the board at the expense of a double play, but couldn’t capitalize on the favourable situation. Victoria answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.
Kamloops took the lead in the third as right fielder Matt MacDonald drove a single through the right side, scoring Jared Hall. In the fifth, Hall drove in center fielder Austin Coyle for run number three, but that was all for the NorthPaws offence.
Victoria took the lead and ran with it after a single, two doubles, and a wild pitch saw them put three on the board in the third. A two-run homerun in the fourth made it 6-2, but the worst was yet to come for the NorthPaws.
In the fifth, Victoria opened up the home half with two singles and two doubles, adding three more runs. Three straight walks brought in two more before a single cleared the bases for Victoria. The HarbourCats hung an eight-spot on the board, all but sealing the fate of the series.
Three more in the seventh and one more in the eighth made it 18-3. It was an impressive night for Victoria, as five players had two RBI each, including first baseman Jake Bulter, who had four hits and five RBIs.
The NorthPaws continue the second leg of their Vancouver Island road trip against the Nanaimo NightOwls at Serauxman Stadium. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
