The Kamloops NorthPaws lost 6-2 at the hands of the Nanaimo NightOwls on Friday night. Kamloops opened the scoring in the first with a run but went silent until the ninth. Meanwhile, the long ball continued to bite the Paws’ pitching staff as the NightOwls put together a couple of good innings and hung on for the victory. The NorthPaws have now lost six straight games.

In the top of the first with one out, right fielder Jared Hall walked. Catcher Matt MacDonald then sent a ball towards third that the third baseman couldn’t field, and Hall advanced to third. With runners on the corners, MacDonald garnered a lot of attention at first base. A throwing error on a pickoff play allowed Hall to score the game’s first run.

In the bottom of the second, back-to-back singles by Nanaimo put the pressure on. The NightOwls sent a ball on the ground that resulted in an error, tying the game. In the third, with two on, another error scored a run for Nanaimo as they grabbed the lead and wouldn’t let go. The NightOwls scored their third run two batters later off an RBI single.

In the fifth inning with one on and one out, the NightOwls launched a home run over the left field fence to make it 5-1. That would end the night for starter Keith Manby as he went five innings, giving up three earned runs while striking out a season high seven batters.

In the seventh, the NorthPaws were in a jam with the bases loaded and no one out. A sacrifice fly made it 6-1, but that’s all Nanaimo could get as Kamloops got out of it with a fly out and a strikeout.

In the ninth, the NorthPaws tried to rally as they led off the inning with a walk and a hit by pitch. With one out, second baseman Zaiden Gukert lined a single into right center field that scored the second run for Kamloops. Unfortunately, a strikeout and flyout ended the game as the NightOwls secured their third victory in four games against Kamloops this season.

The two teams will play again tomorrow night at Serauxmen Stadium in Nanaimo. The first pitch will be at 6:35, and you can find the game on West Coast League TV and the Nanaimo NightOwls YouTube channel.
