The Kamloops NorthPaws defeated the Wenatchee AppleSox 11-6 on Wednesday night to win their fifth straight game, remaining undefeated in the second half. The bats exploded for Kamloops, with the team scoring in six of the nine innings, and six players having multi-hit games, resulting in a total of 17 hits. Joey Rico, Drew Schmidt and Tanner Hornback each recorded multiple RBIs in the game as well.
The NorthPaws got started in the first inning yet again as Hornback singled to right field with a pair of runners on, making it 1-0. Lefty Nolan Livsey made his second start of the summer and was working through adversity during the first four innings. Livsey faced a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the second but was able to get out of it without surrendering a run.
In the top of the third, both Connor Clark and Schmidt got on base with one out. Designated hitter Joey Rico piggybacked off last night’s performance with an RBI double to the gap in right center field, scoring Clark. Schmidt advanced to third on the one-out RBI from Rico and would later score courtesy of a Hornback sacrifice fly.
The fourth inning was a big one for Kamloops. Three straight singles and a double with one out made it a 6-0 game, and things were quickly beginning to unravel for the AppleSox. Following a pitching change, Joey Rico was at the plate and blasted his second home run in back-to-back games, making it 8-0.
In the fifth, Schmidt drove in Clark once again, making it 9-0. The AppleSox rallied in the bottom of the fifth, however. A one-out triple and an error in the field gave the AppleSox their first run. A walk and a single made it 9-2. That was when Nolan Livsey’s outing ended as he went four and a third innings. Wenatchee would make it 9-3 after capitalizing on a wild pitch.
The NorthPaws once again got on the board in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring one run in each inning. Catcher Brendan Buke contributed to both as he scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and delivered a two-strike two-out single, scoring Hornback.
The AppleSox made it closer in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of walks and a single with one out loaded the bases. The NorthPaws almost got out of it, working a full count with two outs, but walked in a run. The next Wenatchee batter singled, scoring two more, but that was all they would get.
The NorthPaws rode many outstanding performances at the plate on Wednesday night. Connor Clark scored four runs, had three hits, two walks and one RBI. Schmidt and Hornback each had a pair of RBIs. Rico had another great night with three RBIs, and Burke quietly put together a three-hit performance.
The NorthPaws will look for the series sweep and sixth consecutive victory on Thursday night in Wenatchee. The team will return to Norbrock this weekend when the Bellingham Bells come to town. It’s a special weekend featuring Logan Stankovens’ signing night on Friday and Saturday’s Kamloops Sandpipers retro night featuring former members of the team.
