Kelowna – The cycle repeats for the Kamloops NorthPaws as they lose the third and final series of the season to the Kelowna Falcons, dropping Thursday’s contest 3-2. It was another pitcher’s duel as the teams combined for just seven hits. In the field, the NorthPaws made five errors.

“Our pitchers gave us every chance to win this game; we just couldn’t get the hit we needed,” Assistant Coach Nolan Austin said.

NorthPaws starter Jude Mondello went three and two-thirds on the mound, giving up two runs. Neither of them was earned, as they got driven in via errors in the second inning.

The Falcons managed just one more insurance run in the fifth. Overall, the staff held the Falcons to a season-low three hits.

“It’s great to see the pitchers step up over the last two games, but we need to do a better job of taking advantage at the plate,” Austin said.

The NorthPaws had a chance to get on the board in the second as a single and double put a pair of runners in scoring position. Unfortunately, two groundouts and a strikeout left them empty-handed.

In the sixth, the Paws got a couple of gritty runs, capitalizing on a throwing error and a sacrifice double play, cutting the deficit to one. In the final third of the game, the NorthPaws didn’t have a man reach base as three Falcon pitchers combined to retire the final 11 batters.

The Falcons and NorthPaws won’t meet again this season. It was an odd split between the two teams, with the home team winning all nine contests. The Paws will now turn their focus to the Victoria HarbourCats, who come to Kamloops for a three-game series starting tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
