Kamloops – The NorthPaws lost big on Saturday night, 13-3, as Victoria evened the series with a statement win. On the mound, the Paws didn’t do themselves any favours, walking 12 batters. The HarbourCats scored 11 of their 13 runs with two outs in an impressive offensive display.
Victoria scored three runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, blowing the game wide open. Two home runs scored five of the runs, but the NorthPaws didn’t do themselves any favours by allowing 15 total free passes. The HarbourCats own the WCL’s best overall team batting average and showed why, scoring runs in a variety of ways.
The NorthPaws, on the other hand, couldn’t keep up. Kamloops left nine runners on base, and despite Victoria’s big run total, the NorthPaws had just four fewer hits. In the ninth, the bases were loaded with nobody out, and they still came up empty-handed. The lone bright spot was Elijah Olaybal, who had a pair of hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
The Paws won’t have much time to dwell on the loss, as the two teams will play the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at 12:05. It will be the final game before the All-Star break. The team will be back at home next weekend to host the Bellingham Bells.
