Kamloops – In front of the largest crowd at NorBrock Stadium all season, everything was going well for the NorthPaws until the RiverHawks scored six runs in the final innings, stealing game two. The 7-6 loss hurt for multiple reasons. The pitchers struggled with command after a great outing from Alex Lee. Six walks and two hit batters set up Edmonton perfectly to send the fans home stunned.
Just like in game one, Edmonton got on the board first, but Kamloops quickly answered. In the bottom of the second, with two outs, both Logan Booth and Jackson Glymph singled. Michael Velardez was next and hit a towering fly ball to deep right field. It bounced off the top of the wall, confusing everyone, but resulted in a pair of runs scoring on a triple.
In the third, the RiverHawks committed three errors, allowing the NorthPaws to score three runs thanks to RBI’s from Keegan Drinkle, Ian Huang and Jackson Glymph. Heading into the middle third of the game, Kamloops held a 5-1 lead. In the fifth, Glymph notched his second RBI with a sacrifice fly.
On the mound, Alex Lee was cruising until the seventh. A single, double and walk loaded the bases and saw him removed from the game. Unfortunately for the NorthPaws, two wild pitches allowed the RiverHawks to make it a 6-3 game.
When it was all said and done, Lee exited after throwing six innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and striking out four. In the eighth, the command didn’t get any better for the Paws. With the bases loaded, a walk made it 6-4. Back-to-back singles then put the RiverHawks in front 7-6.
The NorthPaws couldn’t muster any more offence and went down with little fight. Kamloops will try to win their third consecutive series on Thursday night for Umpire Night. Gates open at 5:30, and first pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
