Bellingham, Washington – For the third time this year, the Kamloops NorthPaws have been swept this time at the hands of the Bellingham Bells. Kamloops got a strong start from right-hander Kyu Lumsdon, and the bats picked him up, scoring five runs. Unfortunately, the Bells scored two in the seventh and eighth innings to secure the sweep. The NorthPaws also committed a season high four errors in the field.

“Kyu was great, and I thought our offence was scrappy today, but late in the game we just sped ourselves up and tried to do too much,” Head coach Riley Jepson said.

Lumsdon avenged his rough last outing, going five innings, giving up just two earned, and striking out three batters on Sunday. Bellingham got to Lumsdon in the fourth with a couple of scrappy RBI’s, but for the first time all weekend, the NorthPaws scored first.

In the top of the first, Evan Dugdale reached on a single and eventually made his way to third. Tate Martin was at the plate and chopped one to the shortstop. A rushed throw went low and skipped past the first baseman, bringing in the first run for Kamloops.

In the third, Camden Sanders singled and advanced to second off an airent throw to the infield. Dugdale then drove him in with his second base hit of the afternoon, giving the Paws a 2-0 lead.

With the game tied at two, the NorthPaws went to work in the top of the sixth. Kade Crawford led off and got hit by a pitch, then stole second. Tate Martin was at the dish and hit a line drive down the left field line to restore the NorthPaws lead. Ian Huang got in on the action with a base hit of his own, making it 4-2.

In the seventh, Dylan Dekker led off with a double. With two outs, Crawford was back at the plate and reached once again, this time with an RBI single, giving the NorthPaws a three-run lead.

In the bottom half, the Bells answered back. An error, a double and a single brought Bellingham within one. In the eighth, three singles and two throwing errors gave the Bells their first lead of the game, putting the NorthPaws on the ropes.

The Bells closed the game in the ninth, handing Kamloops their fourth straight loss.

The team will be off on Monday and start the week with a home-and-home series against the Kelowna Falcons before hosting the Nanaimo NightOwls on the weekend.
