Victoria – The weekend got off to a great start for the NorthPaws as the offence continued to produce in the 9-5 win. It was another great outing from Evan Dugdale, who gave up one earned run through five and two-thirds. At the plate, Kamloops capitalized on errors and timely hitting. The two NorthPaw All-Stars shined in their return to Victoria. Kade Crawford had three RBI’s and Evan Dugdale hit a two-run home run in the seventh.
The two teams were scoreless through four before the NorthPaws erupted in the top of the fifth. A single and a pair of two-out walks loaded the bases. Dylan Dekker was at the plate and got hit by a pitch, scoring the game’s first run. The order turned over for Kade Crawford, who hit an opposite-field single that ended up clearing the bases thanks to a lucky bounce.
The Harbourcats answered with a run in the bottom half, but the NorthPaws immediately counterpunched. After Dugdale led off with a walk, Brock Grainger hit a double off the wall that scored Dugdale from first, restoring the four-run lead.
In the seventh, the NorthPaws kept their foot on the gas. A pair of walks and a groundout put runners at second and third, setting up Jared Hall, who hit a single that ended up scoring two runs on an error. Dugdale came to the plate next and made no mistake, hitting his fourth home run of the season, making it 9-1.
The Harbourcats hung around, scoring two in the seventh and one in the eighth. Victoria came to bat in the ninth with momentum and went to work, loading the bases with one out. A single made it 9-5, but the scoring ended there. Mac Robertson recorded the final out, securing the win.
The NorthPaws and Harbourcats will do it all again tomorrow night, with the Paws looking to take a second straight series on the road. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
