Kelowna – The Kamloops NorthPaws dropped their fifth straight game, losing 7-1 to the Kelowna Falcons. The NorthPaws struck out 11 times and left seven runners on base. The Falcons were scrappy and forced the NorthPaws to make three errors. Despite having one fewer hit than the Falcons, the NorthPaws couldn’t capitalize.

“We’d get guys on, but we couldn’t get that one key hit to fall.” Assistant coach Nolan Austin said.

Kelowna got started early with their leadoff man hitting a home run in the bottom of the first. The solo shot was followed up by back-to-back singles putting runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly brought home the second run of the inning.

NorthPaws starter Jack Thompson eventually settled in, tossing a scoreless second and third inning. The Falcons got to him in the fourth, though. Two singles and an error got things started. A sacrifice fly, balk, passed ball and a single brought home the second run of the inning. Thompson later got pulled after throwing three and two-thirds innings, giving up four earned runs, striking out five.

The Falcons conveniently timed their big fourth inning after the NorthPaws left the bases loaded in the top half, down 2-0. Kelwona added two more runs in the sixth to put it out of reach.

Brock Grainger got the lone RBI of the night in the top of the eighth. Kenner Lauterbach had a great night at the plate despite the loss, going 3-4. Kade Crawford also went 2-4.

The NorthPaws will look to snap the skid tomorrow night against the Falcons at NorBrock Stadium. Tomorrow is also Wine Wednesday at the ballpark, featuring drink deals all night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
