Victoria – The NorthPaws concluded their six-game road trip with a 7-3 win over the Victoria HarbourCats on Sunday afternoon. Similar to Friday, the Paws got a great outing from their starting pitcher. Grant Pednaud pitched five shutout innings, giving up just two hits while striking out four. At the plate, the NorthPaws hit three home runs, including Kade Crawford’s 11th of the season to set the NorthPaws single-season record.
Kamloops got on the board early. In the top of the first with two runners on, Brock Grainger flared a single into center field, scoring Kade Crawford. Unfortunately, the Paws stranded a pair of runners, but with Pednaud cruising, it gave the team a chance to add to their lead.
In the fourth, Kenner Lauterbach and Elijah Olaybal both singled to begin the inning. After back-to-back outs, the order turned back to the top for Kade Crawford. The West Coast League Home Run leader added another. His 11th of the summer broke the NorthPaws single-season home run record and gave Kamloops a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the longball was back again. Both Jared Hall and Camden Sanders hit solo shots, extending the lead to six. In the bottom half, the HarbourCats got themselves back in the game, capitalizing on mistakes on the mound. Kamloops limited the damage to just two runs and held a four-run cushion.
In the eighth, Tanner Mitchell scored on a wild pitch, but just like the sixth, Victoria had an answer. An error and a walk put a pair of runners on. A two-out single made it 7-3, but Cade Bridges was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout, leaving two HarbourCats on base.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bridges gave up a leadoff single but retired the next three batters, ending the game. The final play featured a great play by first baseman Jared Hall, who leaned over a wall by the first base dugout and made the catch. It was a great ending to the NorthPaws most successful road trip of the season.
The team returns home on Tuesday to begin their final homestand of the regular season, starting with a three-game series against the Edmonton RiverHawks. Tuesday’s game is Indigenous Night presented by the Tkemlúps Te Secwépemc. On Wednesday, Stanley Cup Champion Logan Stankoven will be in attendance for a pregame autograph signing, and Thursday is Umpire Night, where Umpires get discounted tickets. Plenty of fun will be had during the final six games at NorBrock Stadium!
