Bellingham, Washington – The Kamloops NorthPaws fell short once again in Bellingham thanks to a big third inning from the Bells. Kade Crawford drove in a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. Crawford was the only NorthPaw with multiple hits as the offence failed to keep pace with Bellingham.
“I think we’re getting a little bit outside of our approach,” Head Coach Riley Jepson said. “Whether the guys realize it or not, there’s still a bit of rust following that four-day break,”
The Bells got started early with two runs in the first inning, opening the score on a past ball and an RBI single to center field. In the third, however, is where the real damage was done.
Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. A well-placed ground ball forced an infield single, scoring run number three. A sharp grounder was fielded by NorthPaws starter Jack Dickinson, and he made the throw to first, allowing another run to score. A two-out double drove in the sixth and seventh runs of the game for Bellingham, completing their big inning.
The NorthPaws had no answer at the plate. Despite coming out on the wrong side of a couple of innings, the coaches have been happy with the performances on the mound.
“I feel like our pitchers have thrown well this series so far, but we need to start attacking guys more on the mound,” Jepson said.
The NorthPaws offence was silent until a big swing from Kade Crawford. The centerfielder drove in a pair with a line drive down the right field line. Crawford now sits in a tie for first in the West Coast League with 23 RBI’s.
The Paws will try to salvage the series tomorrow afternoon as Kyu Lumsdon takes the mound for Kamloops, looking to end the team’s three-game losing streak. You can follow the action on West Coast League TV or the Bellingham Bells YouTube channel. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35.
