Edmonton – The NorthPaws got back in the win column with a 6-5 victory after a long travel day. The teams traded leads for most of the game, with the NorthPaws being down two runs early and then up two until the sixth. The RiverHawks held a 5-4 advantage until Kade Crawford blasted his 10th home run of the season in the eighth inning.
The RiverHawks got on the board first thanks to a single in the third inning. In the fourth, Edmonton doubled their lead with a solo home run.
The bats finally got going for Kamloops in the fifth. With two runners on, Jackson Glymph laid down a bunt to advance the runners. A throwing error allowed Glymph to reach base and Elijah Olaybal to score. Two batters later, Jared Hall hit a sacrifice ground ball, tying the game.
In the sixth, the Paws created momentum by loading the bases. Glymph was at the dish once again and came through with a single, scoring two runs. Things fell apart in the bottom half on the mound. The Riverhawks loaded the bases and scored three runs, all via walks. The NorthPaws stopped the bleeding as Edmonton took a 5-4 lead into the final third of the game.
The two teams were at a stalemate until the top of the eighth. With two outs, Jackson Glymph drew a walk. Michael Velardez was supposed to be next in the order, but head coach Riley Jepson elected to pull Kade Crawford off the bench to pinch hit. It took Crawford two pitches to announce his presence. He drilled a ball to deep left field for his 10th home run of the season, giving Kamloops the lead back.
In the bottom of the ninth, Just Van Den Ouwleen recorded his second save of the season, securing the victory for the NorthPaws. Exactly one year to the date of an ugly 18-3 loss, Kamloops was finally able to avenge that loss and pick up their first win at ReMax Field in two seasons.
The Paws will go for the series win tomorrow night; first pitch is scheduled for 6:05.
