Kamloops – It was another exciting game at NorBrock Stadium as the NorthPaws completed an epic comeback to sweep the Port Angeles Lefties, winning 10-9. The NorthPaws were down 8-0 early on and slowly made their way back into the game. In the bottom of the ninth, Camden Sanders hit a walk-off two-run home run, sending the fans into a frenzy. Sanders launched two home runs on Thursday night, helping the NorthPaws complete the epic comeback.
Things got off to a rocky start for Kamloops. The Lefties came out swinging with seven runs on five hits in the first inning. Port Angeles added another in the second to go up eight runs. NorthPaws starter Kyu Lumsdon stayed in the game and threw a scoreless third and fourth innings.
In the bottom of the third with one out, Sanders was at the plate and already had a hit in the ball game. In a two-strike count, he hit a solo home run over the left field wall, getting the NorthPaws on the board.
In the bottom of the fifth, the bats slowly started to wake up. With two outs, Evan Dugdale reached base on a dropped third strike. Tate Martin was at the plate and drove him in with a double. The Paws rattled off three consecutive RBI doubles as Drinkle and Booth followed, cutting the lead to four.
The Lefties added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, extending their lead to five, but the NorthPaws had an answer. Brock Grainger led off with a double, followed by a Tate Martin Walk. With two outs, Booth, Lauterbach, Dekker, and Setticasi all reached base, bringing in four runs. The NorthPaws were within one.
In the final two innings, Ian Vandepol and Bryce Payne shut down the Lefties bats, keeping it a one-run ballgame heading into the bottom of the ninth.
The Bottom of the order was due up, and head coach Riley Jepson called on Kade Crawford to pinch hit for Dekker. Crawford worked a walk, representing the tying run. Anthony Setticasi was up next and laid down a bunt, allowing Crawford to move into scoring position. The order turned back to the top for Sanders.
In a 2-2 count, he got his pitch and drilled it 403 feet over the wall in left center field. His teammates stormed the field to greet him at home plate, capping off a comeback for the ages.
With the sweep, the NorthPaws are 5-7 on the season and are in a three-way tie for fourth in the North Division. Now the team will shift its focus to the Walla Walla Sweets. The North Paws and Sweets will battle it out at NorBrock Stadium this weekend, starting tomorrow at 6:35. Walla Walla is 8-4 and fresh off a series win in Kelowna.
