NorthPaws Add Utah Valley Righty
The Kamloops NorthPaws have signed right-handed pitcher Mason Gray from Division I Utah Valley University.
Gray is a COVID-sophomore, a unique term being used to describe players who will not lose a year of college playing eligibility due to the abrupt end to the 2020 season courtesy of the pandemic.
In the shortened 2020 campaign he boasted a 5.30 ERA with 14 strikeouts through four starts. His brief season was highlighted by pitching all but one inning in a 1-0 shutout to earn head coach Eric Madsen’s 300th win.

“Adam is just a really good ball player. Not only is he one of our best pitchers, but he’s also one of our best hitters,” said Sammie Starr, Maier’s assistant coach with both the NorthPaws and Thunderbirds. “As soon as he stepped on campus, he was one of our better players and impact players.”
New NorthPaws Infielder Excited for His Return to Canada
Mitch Moralez is the newest addition to the Kamloops NorthPaws.
The middle infielder from Temecula, Calif. is a junior a Division I University of Utah Valley and the most experienced player signed to the NorthPaws 2021 roster.
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about the West Coast League. I’ve got a lot of buddies from down here in Southern California that have got the opportunity to play in it. Everyone has said nothing but good things,” Moralez said. “Competition wise it is one of the best leagues to get a chance play in, so when I got the opportunity, I was really excited.”
Austin’s Home Run Lifts NorthPaws to Sunday Victory Over Nanaimo
Nolan Austin’s three-run blast in the 7th inning lifted the Kamloops NorthPaws to a 8-5 victory over the Nanaimo NightOwls on Save On Foods Family Day at Dearborn Ford Field at Norbrock Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
NorthPaws Walk Off Nanaimo for Second Straight Night
For the second straight night the Kamloops NorthPaws walked off the Nanaimo NightOwls (Bars) 8-7 on Dearborn Ford Field at Nobrock Stadium.
The NorthPaws yet again waited for their favourite inning to win in walk off fashion. Trey Newman corked the 1-2 offering from Landon Frei deep over the centre fielder’s head to bring Mike Fitzsimmons home and win the game.
